Former WWE Champion Daniel Bryan has officially pulled out of the WWE Crown Jewel event which will be held at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on November 2, 2018. Bryan was scheduled to go one-on-one against AJ Styles for the WWE championship in the event. However, due to Bryan’s refusal from fighting in Saudi following the state-sponsored death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the match will now be officially fought between Samoa Joe and Styles.
The match was made after the current WWE Champion Styles retained his title against Daniel Bryan in the opening match of Tuesday night SmackDown. Joe, who returned to action in Atlanta on tonight’s SmackDown show, assaulted both the wrestlers after the match and celebrated with the WWE championship belt.
The match between Bryan and Styles was announced earlier in the show after SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon interrupted an in-ring argument between the wrestler. This was how WWE proceeded with the turn of events as Bryan refused to fight in Saudi Arabia. As the show proceeded, Styles was later seen demanding the SmackDown General Manager Paige for a one-on-one match against Samoa Joe in Crown Jewel.
John Cena was officially removed from the event last night on Raw. Constable Corbin replaced him in the World Cup with Bobby Lashley, who just lost via DQ to Finn Balor.
